What is it?

This project requires a little bit of background. (Disclaimer, all of this is pre-COVID.)

My High School does things very differently, one of those different things is called Lab Day. Lab Day happens every Thursday, and is a day where the student gets to dictate their own schedule. They can choose to catch up on work, get ahead on work, attend a club meeting, or just relax. Lab Day consists of five periods. Every Thursday morning you have to log in to your FlexTime Manager account and sign up for the classes you want to take that day.

Lab Lister is an un-official add-on for FlexTime manager. After signing into both your FlexTime and Lab Lister account, visiting the FlexTime website will bring you to Lab Lister, where you can view your schedule, un-sign up for classes, view your grades, and have classes recommended to you based on your grades.

Some features that I added onto the main functionality include:

  • Easily removing classes from your schedule
  • Being able to search and sort the class selection
  • Hiding classes that are full
  • Displaying your grades
  • Recommending classes based on your grades
  • Live mobile view showing you your current class and how much time is left in that class
  • Showing where in the building you classes are located
  • Having a heat-map of where in the building people are each period
  • An advisor dashboard for advisors to view their student's schedules

Why did I make it?

That FlexTime Manager has a overlooked UI. I wanted to improve it's speed and feature set and make the Lab Day sign-up process enjoyable, for both student and advisors.

COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 shut down Lab Lister with the move to distance learning. However, when one door closes, another one opens. I quickly started a new project, made with COVID in mind. See Dragon Time for more information
