What is it?

Campfire is a post-to-video converter that fetches popular posts from the Reddit API, converts the text content into a voiceover, and combines it with game play footage to create short-form videos.

How does it work?

It scrapes r/AskReddit for the top posts of the day, finds a combination of comments and replies to those comments that when converted to voice-over will not exceed 60 seconds to stay within the YouTube short-form video guidelines. It then combines the voice-over, pre-recorded game play footage, and overlaid subtitles to create a short-form video. It also returns the description with the statistics of how long the video production took.

Things to note

At the moment it is quite slow because it is rendering the subtitles on top of the pre-recorded game play. This could be sped up by generating a transparent video with just the subtitles and then overlaying that on top of the game play footage after the video has been rendered.

The source-code for this project will not be made public. This is because this project has the potential to litter the internet with automated content which clashes with my personal values. There are plenty of people already doing this and I don't want to contribute to the problem. I made this project as a proof of concept to research the viability of this idea. I have no intention of extending this project to the point of monetization.
